TIPS AND TROUBLESHOOTING
There are a few things to keep in mind when working with this version of Vertigo 3D Words:
Accelerator Cards
1. If you don't have a QuickDraw 3D accelerator card, make sure the Apple QuickDraw hardware driver and the Apple QuickDraw 3D hardware plug-in are removed from your Extensions folder. You can turn these items off by choosing Custom Install during the QuickDraw 3D installation process.
Color Display Issues
2. Vertigo 3D Words does not display colors properly on an 8-bit color display (256 colors). This is because QuickDraw 3D has problems recognizing Adobe Illustrator's 8-bit color palette. However, once you place your 3D text in Adobe Illustrator, the converted text objects should reflect the Color swatch selection (see item 3 below).
3. If you're running Vertigo 3D Words on a 16-bit color display, your 3D text color may be slightly different once you've placed your 3D text in Adobe Illustrator. This is because QuickDraw 3D (which is used to display your 3D text in Vertigo 3D Words) deals with the inaccuracy of a 16-bit display slightly differently than Adobe Illustrator does; QuickDraw 3D dithers the colors to get the closest match possible, while Adobe Illustrator simply chooses the closest match from the available palette.
Entering Text
4. If you exceed the 40 character limit in the Text field, you may get unexpected results if you continue typing; for example, pressing certain keys will select various Adobe Illustrator tools. (Remember, changes in the Text field are not reflected in the workspace until you press Return.)
Using the Options Boxes
5. When you hold down the arrows on the Options boxes (Move, Rotate, Depth, Tracking) to scroll through different values, the values may briefly jump in the reverse direction, then move forward again.
Placing 3D Text
6. If characters in your 3D text intersect in the Vertigo 3D Words workspace, on rare occasions some characters may be placed on top of one another in an unexpected way when you place your 3D text in Adobe Illustrator. Try adjusting the 3D text depth and tracking to stop the characters from intersecting, then place your 3D text in Adobe Illustrator again. You can also ungroup the characters in Adobe Illustrator, then rearrange them.
